As we draw ever closer to Dooms Day (February 8th), skateshops from around the country have announced various release policies on the Diamond dunk highs. We've seen everything from raffles and preorders to only being able to purchase a pair if you can kickflip. The kickflip requirement brought about an interesting discussion. Should only those who skate be able to buy "skate shoes"? Someone on Slap said it best
SB stands for skateboarding so they should be skated. True, but Jordans are made to play basketball in and yet very few people are buying a pair of Breds to go ball in. At this point SBs as well as pretty much all Nike shoes have become more than just a shoe. While the logic is sound it's not exactly the shoe to hold specifically for skaters, i'm sure noone is lining up specifically to skate them for $100 (if they are being sold for that much).
What do you think? Should your ability to ride a skateboard determine whether or not you can purchase a shoe? Perhaps if shops are so concerned with who's buying them they should sell core products and then will only sell to skaters and not shoe collectors. Drop a comment below.
Good luck this weekend to all trying to cop.
