It’s that time of year again. The time to look and analyze the highlights Nike SB has brought us this past year. A review of the black/teal box series thus far.
Here are my thoughts… Feel free to let me know how wrong I am in the comments below.
- Nike SB x Lance Mountain Air Jordan 1
On par with the most hyped SB of the year, this beautiful collab surely delivered. While some will argue the black pair is better than the white and vise versa, there is no argument on the quality and execution of this shoe. Paying respects to roots of skateboarding and legends alike, the Lance Mountain AJ1’s come in at the top spot this year. The wear down paint concept has been done before, but it did not take away from the fantastic job Nike did on these.
- Year of the Horse Dunk High
Not to be out done, and coming in at number 2 on the list is the Year of the Horse Dunk High. Again, quality reigned supreme on these red and gold dunks inspired by the Chinese New Year. The speckled sole and gold hits fit perfectly with the red suede and sole. Possibly the most slept on shoe originally, many were upset when they realized how big a mistake they made by passing on such a great dunk. I only wish the coin lace locks released in the US.
- Nike SB x Nigel Sylvester “S.O.M.P.” Dunk High
At number 3, we have the BMX legend Nigel Sylvester’s collab. Released in extremely limited pairs, those lucky enough to grab them know how high the quality is. Butter suede paired with top quality leather finished with a metallic silver swoosh and gum sole put this dunk high among the top of this years SB class.
- Nike SB “Tiffany/Diamond” Dunk High
The hype was there, but the quality unfortunately did not reach the same heights. That being said, these dunks kicked off the SBs “retro-ing” with a bang and sold out everywhere immediately. This pair was rumored to be in the works for years. A fitting sequel for one of the most iconic dunks of all time. The highs were a must have for most. Although the croc print did not shine as bright it certainly made perspective buyer’s eyes light up.
- Nike SB x Quartersnacks Dunk Low
A long time coming. Ever since a simple teaser picture of the tongue was leaked excitement was abound, and the QS collab did not disappoint. Sometimes less is more and the simple yet clean color way certainly fit the bill. Black, white, and grey paired with Quartersnack logo hits and writing were the weapons of choice. And who doesn’t like a gum sole? Hoping SB looks to them in the future to team up again.
Acapulco Gold x Nike SB Dunk High “Mowabb”, Blacksheep x Nike SB “Paid In Full” Dunk High (Shame they were scrapped. Hope too see them get another chance to collab with the swoosh), Orange and Pine Green Janoski Max.
