The almighty SLAP messageboard has informed us that Nike wil soon add two skaters to their already stacked team of riders. Alex Olson and Sean Malto will be announced as Nike\’s newest team members in the near future. Malto has previously been rumored to sign with adidas to join their skate program. The Trefoil brand even used Malto\’s beloved Kansas City Chiefs to convince him to join their squad. An article on the website of Kansas City magazine The Pitch tells us the following:
\”A signed Berry jersey hangs on a wall near his kitchen. The inscription reads: \”Best of luck. I hope you join the team.\”
Not the Chiefs. Adidas.
It\’s kind of a shame that it didn\’t work out, but I did get a signed jersey out of it.
According to sources Malto let the money do the talking and signed with the brand that was willing to put the most cash in his pockets. With Nike\’s skateboarding program being way bigger than adidas\’, it\’s clear that the Swoosh has a bit more financial backing. Malto will be the third skater to wear Nike\’s on Street League, after Eric Koston and Shane O\’Neill. There\’s a good chance that Beaverton sees Malto as a replacement for O\’Neill, who tried to sign with DC earlier (but Nike held him to his contract) and left the King of the Road tour bus earlier this year.
Alex Olson has just been released by Vans this week (along with Bucky Lasek and Massimo Cavedoni) and has been spotted in Janoski\’s on several occasions. The son of legendary Dagger Steve Olson signed with Vans three years ago, right after he had a part in Lakai\’s Fully Flared video. Full details about his departure aren\’t know yet but quite possibly his contract ran out and either Olson or Vans (or possibly both) decided to not continue their professional relationship.
Since both skaters are currently filming for the new Girl/Chocolate movie it\’s pretty safe to say that we will most likely not see them in SB Chronicles Vol.2 that is scheduled to drop next year.
