For this Skateboard Saturday get pumped on two videos of the ALIS Wonderland skatepark in Freetown Christiania. Tom Penny is skating exclusively in the first video. The bowl structure and transition design you see Penny skating was not as complete a month prior as locals were revamping and adding to the old and aging ramp and platform material. This revamp also established a gnarly drop in from a window perch. I skated this park just shy of a month before Penny's footage was filmed there.
The setup was definitely skatable and very fun, though due to the reconstruction, some segments were off limits as woodworking was in progress. I would have liked to skate the finished design and I am guess some new elements have been added since 2010. The weather definitely got chilly at night and the park with a roof over it served as a semi-shelter warm area for people kicking good convos, having good times hanging with buddies, skating the structure, or just viewing the happenings, as tourist pop in and out to view this unique slice of life in an already unique town with enough history and stories to make a great coffee table book.
The second video starts off a bit dull, but hang with it to see the parks' early beginnings and additions through history's lens. The skating is very good and features several of our favourite skaters, such as, Nicky Guerrero, Rune Glifberg.
