Yesterday a news publication in Philadelphia covered an article in regards to Nike terminating their business relationship with a local shop. While it's true, the story doesn't quite paint the picture of what most likely is happening; they are ending business with rogue accounts. For those unfamiliar, this practice was strictly enforced by Nike SB during it's early days when shops would be caught doing one of several things, either selling entire size runs (backdooring), breaking street date, or selling promo allocations on eBay.
Here is an excerpt from the article:
Far too long collectors have been getting shafted to the highest bidder. In regards to Nike SB, we hear the brand is going to begin enforcing a stricter set of rules in regards to their upcoming releases as well. We've already seen such initiatives with street dates for selected quickstrikes again. This helps alleviate any confusion for the consumer and I imagine brings some energy back to local. It also helps identify shops that break it giving them an edge to mark up MSRP.
